Privacy policy
storejoanna.com is operated by Black Ants Group Pty Ltd (ABN 77 682 530 801), trading as Store Joanna, 1b Mangarra Road, Canterbury, Victoria 3126, Australia. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and who we share it with.
What we collect
When you order: your name, email address, delivery address, phone number and order details.
Payment details: your payment is processed by Shopify Payments and by any other payment provider shown at checkout. We never see or store your full card number. Our order records do show your billing name and address, the card type, its expiry date and the last four digits, which we use to identify your payment and to process refunds.
When you use the site: your IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, and information collected by cookies. If you subscribe to our email list, your email address.
Why we collect it
- To process, fulfil and deliver your order
- To contact you about your order
- To handle returns, refunds and enquiries
- To meet our tax and record-keeping obligations
- To send marketing emails, if you asked us to
- To improve the store
Who we share it with, including overseas
To make and deliver your order we must pass your name, delivery address and phone number to our freight partner in China, which ships your furniture to Australia and clears it through customs, and to the delivery company that brings it to your door. Your details are also given to customs authorities where required to clear the goods.
We would rather say this plainly than bury it: your name, delivery address and phone number leave Australia every time you order from us. They go to our freight partner in China, and there is no way for us to deliver an order without that happening.
The businesses there are not bound by the Australian Privacy Principles, the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) does not apply to them, and if one of them mishandled your information you may not be able to seek redress in Australia or under Australian law. We choose our fulfilment partners with that in mind, and we send them only what is needed to get your furniture to your door. We do not send them your payment details, your email address or your order history. By placing an order you consent to that disclosure. If that is not something you are comfortable with we understand completely — and we would rather you knew now than after you had paid.
We also use:
- Shopify — our e-commerce platform, which hosts this store and processes payments. Shopify is a Canadian company and stores our store and order data on servers outside Australia, including in the United States and Canada
- Shopify's email and analytics tools, and any other analytics tool shown in our cookie banner, to send order notifications and to see which pages people use. These providers are also located outside Australia, mainly in the United States
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not trade or rent customer lists.
Marketing
We only send marketing email if you opted in. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link that works. Unsubscribing does not stop transactional emails about an order you have placed.
Cookies
We use cookies to keep your cart working, remember preferences, and measure how the site is used. You can block cookies in your browser, but parts of the store — the cart in particular — may stop working.
How long we keep it
We keep order and tax records for five years from the date of the transaction, because Australian tax law requires us to. We keep marketing contact details until you unsubscribe.
Security
We use Shopify's secure, encrypted platform. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information and we limit who can access it.
If personal information we hold is lost, or accessed or disclosed without authorisation, and that is likely to cause you serious harm, we will tell you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as soon as we can, and in any event within 30 days of becoming aware of it. We will tell you what happened, what information was involved, and what you can do about it. We make that commitment whether or not the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme applies to a business of our size, and we handle your information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles on the same voluntary basis.
Accessing or correcting your information
Email joanna@storejoanna.com to ask what we hold about you, to correct it, or to ask us to delete it. Address requests to the Privacy Officer. We will answer within 30 days, and sooner if we can. There is no charge for asking, and no charge for us to make a correction.
We will delete what we hold and ask our freight and delivery partners to do the same, but we cannot recall delivery details already passed to a freight partner, a carrier or a customs authority in order to get your furniture to you. We also need to keep some records to meet our tax obligations even after a deletion request, and if that applies we will tell you exactly what we are keeping and why.
Children
This store is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Complaints
Email joanna@storejoanna.com first and we will try to resolve it. If you are not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Changes
We may update this policy. The current version is always the one published on this page.
